BTR Stories: Introducing- Tracy Chau
Who are you?
I’m a Talent and Engagement Manager in hospitality- in simple terms I look for people with good vibes join a bunch of proper “vibers” who care about people.
What inspired you to start a career in Talent Acquisition?
I actually wanted to be a HR generalist, but soon realised hiring people was a lot more fun, more “me”, so I went to focus all my energy into TA and I’m loving it!
What do you enjoy most about being in this profession?
I love meeting new people and discovering their stories and passions for things they’re obsessed about, always so fascinating.
What’s your personal philosophy on hiring great talent?
“You can teach a skill, but you can’t teach kindness”. Not to say skill isn’t important of course, but for me you have to be kind first, skill comes second.
What do you hope followers will gain from Badger the Recruiters?
I hope our followers will find the content interesting and they can give us their perspectives too- we’re all here to learn together.
What’s the one lesson you’ve learned in recruiting that changed how you work?
Candidate experience can always be elevated, no matter how great you think your process is!
If you weren’t in Talent Acquisition, what would you be doing?
Probably a performer of some sort, I have “main character energy”, haha!
What’s your biggest accomplishment?
I think it has to be getting my mum to understand what I do for living. My mum comes from a very labour-intensive background, so her idea of careers/jobs is either “hands-on” or “office jobs”, she doesn’t have a concept of categorising roles. Only recently she’s able to explain to people that I “hire people for restaurants”, so that’s a win 🙌🏼
